While the KNIGHT RIDER years were going on, there has changed a lot in the live of David Hasselhoff. The hot twenties were now behind David. As he was 32 he meet Catherine Hickland, who acted in another NBC-Soap: CAPITOL. So David promised to himself to make his biggest wish come true: A Family. So he made a marriage proposal to Catherine. They got married in 1984.

But the marriage between the two of them was never under a bright star. Because both were very popular TV-Show stars. Their marriage got into the center of the Hollywood-Industry and so both could not make a difference between private live and career. Already their marriage was more a show than a real marriage. Their marriage was also a part of a KNIGHT RIDER episode (The Smell Of A Rose (Der Duft einer Rose)). So all fans could see a personal event on TV.

After the ceremony David moved with his wife to a big house in the mountains of Hollywood. The house had a swimming pool and a beautiful view over the city. There, they said to the press, that they wanted to grow up their own kids.

One of Davids favourite properties was always the love for kids. If ever he had the chance, he took care of kids with cancer and of invalid kids. "That all started as Randy Armstrong, who had cancer and only a few more months to live, came to the shootings. It was at one of the first episodes for the TV-Show KNIGHT RIDER", David tells. "They told me, that he'd soon have to die and we decided to show him around the whole day. At a few scences he even could drive within the car, what normaly would have been forbidden. But it made him so happy and that was what us made happy too. He was such a smart and clever boy. But only six weeks later he died." For Randy that was one of the most exciting experiences of his live, that he insisted to get bury with the KNIGHT RIDER-Jacket and the KNIGHT RIDER-Baseball Cap. On his gravestone was written: "ONE MAN CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!", which was also the main principle of KNIGHT RIDER.

David will always remember him: "From that moment on I knew, that there was a special reason for me, to be KNIGHT RIDER", he explained. "Together with a few friends I decided, that we should help kids like Randy. So we established the Starlight Foundation and the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Emma Samms, of the TV-Show DENVER CLAN, was also one of the members who helped to establish those Foundations.

The Starlight Foundation supported kids with leukemia and their families. With the money, which was from a big part of Davids account, they helped the kids to make their wishes come true. The stations of the hospitals, in which the kids had to live a big part of their lives got more friendly and pleasant for kids. Whenever David had time, he visited the kids there and played with them.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation made wishes of the kids, who'd soon had to die, come true. One of the biggest wishes of them, was to meet the KNIGHT RIDER in person. "They came from all over the world: England, Rumania, Yugoslavia, Switzerland, Austria, Germany, ..., ..., ..., and the USA. I made a picture of each and every one of them and putted it onto my mirror at home. At the end of Knight Rider, I couldn't see myself in the mirror", David tells. "I got letters of parents with the message: You made us remember to our belief in God and for that we want to thank you. It is impressive, how parents can be that strong without losing their courage. I don't know how I'd react, if I'd lose one of my kids."

David remembers himself at scenes next to the beds of kids, who had to live only a few more weeks if not even days: "I'll never forget as a little southafrican boy woke up of the coma and said: 'I love Michael Knight.' Another boy was hitted by a flash and didn't speak for five years. I made a video for him, where I started to talk and talk: ,Hey, here is Michael Knight. Please get healthy soon and I wish you all the best for your birthday.' The boy saw the video and said suddenly: 'I love you mum, I love KNIGHT RIDER'. 'That gave me the courage, to continue the Starlight Foundation also after KNIGHT RIDER was over."

At all his work with the kids it was Davids own, really personal dream, to have his own kids. But Catherine wanted to continue with her career, which began to start now for real. So David concentrated himself also stronger on his career.
